Standing Waves

The similarity of light and sound travelling in waves has always fascinated me. This interactive audiovisual installation is my attempt to connect these two ways of motion, to have a synaesthetic experience of motion. I’m using the vibration of two subwoofers to move water to create visual representations of their frequencies on the surface. The reflection of moving bands of light on the waters surface accentuates the motion, bending and twisting to the sound of the subwoofers.

The user is invited to experiment with both the frequency and volume of each subwoofer seperately, changing the form and intensity of these shapes, as well as manipulate the way the bands of light move and dance around.
